This is a lot of TWENTY-THREE big original never-before-published Third Reich photos taken in Reichshauptstadt Berlin by a visitor to the capital of Nazi Germany during the 1936 Summer Olympic Games. Each 5-1/8 x 7-1/8 inch (13 x 18 cm) black & white photos is printed on either authentic German Third Reich era Agfa Brovira or similar matt portrait paper and shows a different scene in downtown Berlin while it was decorated for the XI. Olympische Spiele.
Three of the photos were taken inside the Olympic Stadium during the opening ceremony and another shows a motorcycle during a race in a city street. Other photos show huge Nazi swastika banners on and in the area around the Brandenburg Gate, on Unter den Linden and Adolf Hitler Platz, the Berliner Dom (cathedral) and city palace, airplanes flying over the city, huge eagle and swastika decorations especially erected for the Olympics, a huge, fancy, open Mercedes-Benz car with Wehrmacht license plate number WH-134182 and a triangular Nazi pennant on the left front fender, two rows of SS military command cars with SS license plates, a woman with a huge German shepherd dog, the Kaiserhof Hotel across from Hitler's Reichschancellery on Wilhelmplatz, tourists photographing the elaborate Nazi decorations, policemen on the street and a lot more.
We show most of these original photos on this USMBOOKS web page so any potential buyer knows what we are offering for sale. The photos have never been pasted in an album and are exactly as we purchased them many years ago. We suspect they were taken by a visitor from Vienna, as that is where we bought them from an estate seller.
Five of the photos are printed on Third Reich paper with Agfa Brovira logos on the back and none of the photo prints fluoresces under black light.
All photos are original to the Third Reich period and 22 are in very good condition. One has finger prints on it. They are a perfect example of how an average visitor would have seen Berlin during the big Olympic sporting event 83 years ago, and we have never seen any of the images published anywhere. These rare Olympic photo prints would make an outstanding addition to any advanced collection of Olympic material in general, or of material specific to Nazi era Berlin or the Berlin Olympics. They would be ideal as illustrations in a book or magazine article.
This original lot of 23 unpublished Third Reich photos taken in 1936
