Mit dem XIII. Armeekorps in Polen is a 1940 Erinnerungsbuch or reminiscence book put together by Officers of the 13th Army Corps that participated in the September 1939 invasion of Poland. The 64 glossy pages in this 9 x 12-½ inch blue linen hardcover book with silver blocking on the cover include 80 photos and maps. It was published in 1940 by Bayerland-Verlag of Munich and still has its rare original dust jacket.
General der Kavallerie Freiherr Maximilian von Weichs, was head of Armeekorps 13 (also known as Army Corps "Weichs"), and his foreword is the first page in this book. It is followed by a message from General Johannes Blaskowitz of Armee-Oberkommando 8 to the victorious soldiers of the German 8th Army dated 19 September 1939.
Different chapters written by members of the XIII Armeekorps contain observations and experiences during the battle - the start of the invasion, encountering the enemy for the first time, battle conditions and terrain. Several maps show the progress of the invasion.
General Walther von Brauchitsch, General Johannes Blaskowitz, General Franz Halder, General Gerd von Rundstedt, General Wilhelm Keitel and Cavalry General von Weichs are pictured in this book, but there are also photos of the muddy terrain that was difficult to cross by infantry, motorized and cavalry troops, huge artillery guns, Nazi tanks, men of the RAD, Luftwaffe airplanes above Polish cities, ethnic Germans welcoming Nazi soldiers in Lodsch, Wehrmacht troops putting a temporary bridge in place, battle damage, a soldier's grave along side a road, Wehrmacht radio troops, Polish POWs, the battle for Warsaw, Polish surrender negotiations in Warschau, and a rare photo of General Erwin Rommel (referred to as the "Supreme Commander of the Fortifications of Warsaw") on the grounds of the Skoda Works.
The last few pages have photos taken during the 5 October 1939 victory parade in Warsaw and the review by Hitler of his victorious Wehrmacht troops on foot, horseback, and in trucks.
Many of the photos are by photographers working for Heinrich Hoffmann and Scherl-Bilderdienst, but Mit dem XIII. Armeekorps in Polen also includes photos by war correspondents traveling with the troops.
This 80 year old fine quality Nazi commemorative photo book with glossy art paper pages is in very nice, little used condition, with no odor. The dust jacket (shown left) is original and shows light wear only.
This fine 1940 Nazi 13th Army Corps commemorative photo book is for
