Carinhall souvenir
This is a genuine stonecutter-worked limestone shard removed from the ruins of Carinhall, the country estate of Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring on the Schorfheide, a forested area full of wildlife with many lakes and bogs, north of Berlin in June of 1990.

Göring’s simple hunting lodge was named for his first wife, Swedish divorcée Carin von Fock-Göring, and was finished in 1934. Like Adolf Hitler’s modest alpine chalet, the Berghof above Berchtesgaden, Carinhall was later enlarged and expanded several times into a significant estate. Goering ordered its destruction in April 1945 as Soviet troops closed in on the area.

Following World War II, the Schorfheide nature reserve in East Germany was enjoyed only by DDR communist leaders whose State Security (Stasi) closed off the area to regular citizens. Years later, after German reunification in 1989, the Schorfheide became a national park and was officially made a protected area for the enjoyment of the populace.

Offered for sale on this USMBOOKS web page is the limestone shard that was part of an excavated lamp post base in the ruins of Carinhall that was taken as a souvenir in 1990 after the unified German government had dug up Carinhall to search the area for valuables, but well before the area was officially opened to the public.
