This rare mid-war edition of Der Stürmer has articles about Germany’s fight against bolshevism, cowardly Russian soldiers that surrendered, Jews in Turkey, Praying in British synagogues, the communist threat to world peace, “Behind the Scenes of the Jewish War”, cultural German pioneers in the United States (“Germans are examples everywhere”), and more.

This is a rare original 12 x 17 inch complete example of the 18 June 1942 Nürnberg edition of Der Stürmer, the newspaper published by anti-Semitic Nazi Gauleiter Julius Streicher. Under the masthead the weekly newspaper was referred to as “the battle for the truth”.

At the bottom of the front page of this extremely anti-Jewish 8-page edition of Der Stürmer the bold line says The Jews are Our Misfortune!

There is advertising in this 18 June 1942 issue of Julius Streicher’s newspaper for swastika flags, Nazi skull and cross bone rings, corsets, razor blades, popular Nazi books, cafés, musical instruments, etc. On the back cover there are several Fips cartoons.

On the right side of the center horizontal fold each page has a tear of about 2 inches, but otherwise this rare, nearly 79 year old Nazi newspaper is in nice condition. None of the printing is missing because of the short tears at the edge of the pages. Every museum and collection should have at least one example of Der Stürmer!

The striking illustration of the Nazi soldier holding a stick grenade on the front page is by Fips. Philipp ‘Fips’ Rupprecht was the caricaturist for Der Stürmer for which he created the “stereotypical Jew”; swarthy and unshaven, with a big nose and bulging eyes. He worked for Der Stürmer until the last issue in February 1945 but is best known for his illustrations for the two heavily anti-Jewish books Trau keinem Fuchs auf grüner Heid und keinem Jud bei seinem Eid (Don't Trust a Fox in a Green Meadow or a Jew Under Oath) and Der Giftpilz (The Poison Mushroom).

There is also an interesting request for readers of Der Stürmer to donate Jewish and anti-Jewish books, documents and pictures they no longer wish to own to the archive of Der Stürmer.

There is a quote from Adolf Hitlers speech to parliament on 26 April 1942 with the title “Why the Battle against the Jews?” as well as a column of Feldpost letters sent to Der Stürmer by German soldiers with reports about Jews, under the headline Soldaten sehen den Juden (Soldiers see the Jews).
