This heavy book contains ALL the 1941 monthly issues of the superb, rare Nazi German aviation magazine Deutsche Luftwacht Ausgabe LUFTWISSEN (German Aviation Review Air Knowledge) German bound in durable hard covers. The 8-½ x 11-3/4 by 1-3/8 inch thick, 4-½ pound book has over 400 pages stuffed full of what was then the very latest in aviation news, airplanes, aeronautical research in the year 1941, complete with fantastic period aviation related advertising, and it is fully indexed.
Deutsche Luftwacht Luftwissen was published in association with the world-renowned Lilienthal Association for Aviation Research in Berlin by W.S. Mittler & Sohn in Berlin. This is the sister-publication of the magazine Deutsche Luftwacht LUFTWEHR. The price of each issue in Germany was RM 1.00 (40 US cents) and RM1.50 (60 US cents) for subscribers outside Nazi Germany.
World War II was in full swing when these magazines were published and the Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht had scored important victories on the west front, in the Balkans, North Africa, western Europe, and during the start of Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union.
Every 1941 issue of Deutsche Luftwacht Ausgabe Luftwissen contains sophisticated in-depth photo reports on subjects such as the Luftwaffe bombing raids on England, an overview of aviation in Nazi Germany in the year 1940, airplane propellors, inside a huge French wind tunnel at Meudon near Paris (photos above and left), new BMW airplane engines, the Luftwaffe's activities in the air space above the Mediterranean and the Balkans, measuring techniques during test flights, flying wing aircraft Horten V (photo below), rescue buoys, a visit to a Nazi parachute factory, Fallschirmjäger in action in Crete, the announcement Operation Barbarossa ("The German Wehrmacht Secures Europe"), resupplying the Afrikakorps or DAK in Northern Africa, Luftwaffe attacks on Soviet airfields, Soviet military airplanes and their 'dying air force', Italian aviation research, British military airplanes, the Fw 189, the Me110 in action in the east, flying in winter, passenger airplane lighting, etc., etc.
Each of these original issues of Deutsche Luftwacht LUFTWISSEN also contain news and announcements about the recipients of the Lilienthal Association for Aviation Research award, a message from Nazi Aviation Minister Goering commemorating the 6th anniversary of the new Luftwaffe, the 15th anniversary of Deutsche Lufthansa, Nazi Aviation Minister Goering thanking the victorious paratroopers of Crete, the death General der Flieger Ernst Udet, the Fliegertod of Luftwaffe Ace Werner Mölders, tidbits of German and international aviation news, tables with research results, technical illustrations, research notes and photos, as well as aviation book reviews (for example for Nauticus 1941, Der Feldzug in Norwegen and Der Krieg in Karten 1939/40) and job opportunities in the German aviation industry for skilled workers.
These Third Reich magazines also contain superb photo content including the Fw 200C, Stukas Ju88, Focke-Wulf 'Condor', the visit of Hermann Goering, General der Flieger Ernst Udet and Generalleutnant Bodenschatz to the Messerschmitt factory, King Boris inspecting German fighter planes on a Rumanian air base, a formation of He111, Luftwaffe planes above the Acropolis in Athens, Gebirgsjäger watching a Stuka attack from the ground, paratroopers, FLAK in North Africa, Nazi radio troops on the East Front, battle damage in the Soviet Union, the coffin of Ernst Udet at the Nazi Aviation Ministry in Berlin, etc., etc. - far too many to mention.
These 1941 issues of Deutsche Luftwacht Ausgabe Luftwissen were bound when they were new and in very good condition. This bound volume even has a rare correction slip bound in after a Professor Dr. Schlichting-Braunschweig notified the publisher of a mistake in an aerodynamic calculation!
Of course, each issue also had aviation related advertising from companies like IG Farben, Dornier, Blohm & Voss, Henschel, Siemens, Bosch, Telefunken, Ernst Heinkel Flugzeugwerke, Junkers, Zeiss-Ikon, Focke-Wulf, Gerhard Fieseler Werke, Zeiss-Ikon, Messerschmitt, Focke-Wulf, Arado, parachute manufacturers, banks, etc.
Priceless and irreplaceable historical World War II aviation photographic content!
The covers of Luftwissen always have large interesting photos of subjects and since these were published during World War II, most of them have Luftwaffe planes and men in action.
