Konstantin Hierl - der Mann und sein Werk (Konstantin Hierl - the Man and his Work) is an extensive biography about Reichsarbeitsführer or Nazi State Labor Leader Konstantin Hierl, from his youth and military service during World War I to his work with the Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD or German State Labor Service).
Hierl (1875-1955) was a World War I veteran, a close associate of Adolf Hitler, a very early member of the Nazi Party and an important member of the Nazi government. Before the National Socialists were elected to power in 1933, he already headed the labor movement in Germany, a job he fulfilled until the end of the Third Reich in 1945. The importance of the labor movement is crucial to any understanding of Third Reich Germany specifically because of how important compulsory labor service was to the Nazi indoctrination of the participants, and how important the work of the RAD was to the German Nation.
The black & white pictures in this book show Konstantin Hierl during World War I, with Adolf Hitler at the Nazi Party Days in Nuremberg and during a RAD rally, with female RAD leadership, during a work trip in Cochem sampling Moselle wine, signing autographs for RAD girls, with a young Arbeitsmaiden milking a cow (note the muddy boots), with his wife (below), daughter and grandchildren, etc.
Konstantin Hierl - der Mann und sein Werk was written by Herbert Erb and Hans Henning Freiherr Grote in 1939 and published by the Central Publishing House of the NSDAP, Franz Eher Nachfolger of Munich, Germany. This is a very nice 5-½ x 8-½ inch, 184-page dark blue hardcover Third Edition of 1942 printed by Buchgewerbehaus Müller & Sohn in Munich with a dark blue linen spine with gold embossed blocking.
This 80+ year old example of Konstantin Hierl - der Mann und sein Werk is in very good, little-used condition. While the dark blue outside of the book has faded a bit, the interior pages are in superb condition. Tight spine, no odor.
