This is a very nice low printing First Edition of Hindenburg im neuen Deutschland, a high-quality glossy paper hardcover book produced by Dr. Ewald Kimenkowski as a “monument of gratitude” to the popular German statesman Paul von Hindenburg. The book was published in 1934 soon after Hindenburg’s death.

The 7-1/2 x 10-½ inch, 152-page book starts with a frontispiece portrait of Hindenburg with a facsimile of his signature. This is followed by Reichspräsident von Hindenburg at the opening of Parliament in Potsdam on 21 March 1933, with Adolf Hitler and Hermann Göring, Hindenburg addressing a German youth rally in Berlin on 1 May 1933 (the first 'Nazi' Day of Labor) and with Hitler and other dignitaries at the commemoration of Tannenberg Memorial in East Prussia on 23 August 1933.

There is a picture of German citizens signing a condolence book, and recaps of how Hindenburg’s death was announced in the German press and abroad.

The book ends with “Hindenburg’s Political Testament” followed by a chapter called “What Hindenburg was to us” by Dr. Otto Dietrich, Reichspressechef der NSDAP. The last picture is a rare image of Professor Josef Thorak working on Hindenburg’s death mask, shown below.

Hindenburg im neuen Deutschland is heavily illustrated with black & white pictures showing Hindenburg throughout his life, and with Adolf Hitler during the last year of his life. There is a fine etching of Hindenburg (“Our Frontline Soldier”) by Erich Heermann and many pictures of his memorial service and elaborate state funeral at Tannenberg.
