Die Verlorene Insel or "The Lost Island" is an EXTREMELY anti-British Nazi book subtitled "The Face of Today's England". This 8-½ x 9 inch, very heavily illustrated hardcover book with 105 pages was published in Berlin in 1941 by Volk und Reich Verlag, a noted publisher of pro-Nazi material.
The book starts out with a portion of an anti-British / anti-French speech given by Adolf Hitler to armament industry workers on 10 December 1940, followed by a recap of England's history, colonies, landscape, etc. The majority of the black & white photos however, are of the distinct separation of British society, the aristocracy, government members, Jewish bankers, fancy schools, private clubs, families living on the street wearing rags, being arrested, etc. The captions leave no doubt this is a very anti-British Nazi book, showing how unfair life in Britain was if you were not wealthy or titled. British colonial politics, war tactics in Palestine, World War I and 1939/1940 are fully covered.
Photos by Associated Press, Atlantic-Photo Berlin, Scherl, Weltbild GmbH, and war correspondents include the Tower of London, Big Ben, Ascot, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, the Henley Regatta, Gibraltar, India, China, Malta, Egypt, Palestine, Belgium, defeat at Narvik, etc.
The final photos in this historical Third Reich book are of German Luftwaffe bombing raids on England, and London on fire after an air raid.
