Leutnant Hermann Friedrich Joppien
Lot 326 - this is a photographic postcard of Leutnant Hermann Friedrich Joppien, the World War II fighter ace who claimed 70 enemy aircraft shot down in roughly 270 combat missions.  After his 40th aerial victory he was awarded Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves which he is wearing in this photographic Nazi postcard. Joppien was killed in action on the Eastern Front on 25 August 1941.

On 12 January 1944 this card was sent by Feldpost to an Obergefreiter stationed in Wien by a Kriegsmarine sailor stationed in Cuxhaven.
Lot 322 - this original 89 x 143 mm Nazi postcard was produced at the time of the referendum for the Anschluss, the plebiscite in which the citizens of Austria voted overwhelmingly for reunification with Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany in the spring of 1938. It shows a monument erected in the town of Sant Jakob im Rosental to commemorate the "freedom fight" of Carinthia with the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs after World War I. The monument is flanked by large swastika banners.

The card was produced by Kunstverlag Franz Schilcher of Klagenfurt and was never mailed and has a blank back.  Very nice condition, exactly as shown above.

Unfortunately, there is a short tear about 2 inches from the bottom right corner and there is a handwritten name and address on the back, which somebody tried to erase. However, the card was never mailed and has no stamp or cancellation on the back.   Our price reflects the condition.
