Warum und wofür kämpfen wir? (Why and For What Do We Fight?) is Heft 1 or issue number one of a series of political publications by the Aufklärungsdienst zur Reichsverteidigung (Information Service for National Defense) in Berlin. The 28 heavily illustrated pages in Warum und wofür kämpfen wir? explain why it was necessary for the Wehrmacht to invade Poland in September 1939.

According to this Nazi political propaganda publication, continuing Polish provocation as a result of the meddling of British Prime Minister Chamberlain and Foreign Minister Anthony Eden, as well as negative Jewish influences, left Hitler no other option but to invade Poland. Adolf Hitler’s efforts to ensure peace were unsuccessful and German borders in the East had to be protected. “Germany did not want this war. The war was forced upon us by England.”

This 4 x 5-5/8 inch softcover Nazi propaganda booklet is undated, but was clearly printed in the fall of 1939. It has maps, photos of British politicians, Hitler reviewing Wehrmacht soldiers, ethnic German victims of Polish brutality, Joachim von Ribbentrop and Stalin as well as Adolf Hitler addressing Parliament in Berlin announcing the invasion of Poland on 1 September 1939.

Few of these Weltpolitische Schriftenreihe propaganda publications have survived. This one is complete and in very nice condition. It has no offensive odor.
