Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler
SS oath
SS-General Arthur Seyss-Inquart was Reichsminister without Portfolio, a member of the Reich Cabinet, President of the German Academy in Munich, member of the Reichstag and Nazi Reichs Commissar for the Occupied Territory of the Netherlands. In the last position he was responsible for everything that took place in The Netherlands during the German occupation of that country (May 1940-1945) including the publication of the big, fancy, heavily illustrated Volk und Reich Verlag coffee table magazine WESTLAND.
Battle of Europe
Dutch SS volunteers
The 10-5/8 x 14 inch, 60 page magazine billed itself as the publication for beauty, history and culture of the land along the end of the Rhine, Mosel, Maas and Schelde rivers, the land we call Holland or the Netherlands. Based on the content of the magazine there isn't the slightest doubt that it was aimed directly at the germanic population of Holland and especially at volunteers in service with the SS and their families and institutions.

Dutch Waffen-SS troops in the east
One of the principal articles in the magazine is "From Service in the East with the Germanic SS Niederlande" by SS-Sturmbannführer Dr. Johann Bastiaan van Heutsz. There are ful-page photos of Dr. Arthur Seyss-Inquart walking hand-in-hand with little Dutch girls, and helmeted SS soldiers. There are smaller photos of Dutch Waffen-SS troops in the east, SS men taking the oath, an SS man interrogating an Asiatic Soviet prisoner, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler in conversation with Dutch men of Germanic SS Westland, etc., etc.

Other articles cover subjects like the landscape in the west, pottery made by early people in the west, styles of Dutch farm houses, flower gardens in the Netherlands, the building of dikes to dry up the sea, Hanseatic settlements in the west, the Battle for Europe from 1939 - 1942, etc., etc. There are two large and colorful fold-outs in the magazine, one showing the principal cities in "Westland" and the other a close-up map of the Netherlands and northwestern Germany.
