Front in der Heimat (Frontline in the Homeland) is subtitled "The Book of German Armament Workers" and was written by Dipl.Ing. Josef Pöchlinger, Press Officer of the Reichsminister für Bewaffnung und Munition. The Reichsministerium für Bewaffnung und Munition was created in March 1940 to improve the supply of weapons and ammunition to the Wehrmacht and in 1942 when this book was published, it was headed by Dr. Ing. Fritz Todt. The book starts with a full-page portrait of Reichsminister für Bewaffnung und Munition Dr. Todt in his Luftwaffe uniform and he wrote the foreword as well. [Todt died in an airplane crash at Rastenburg on 8 February 1942 and Albert Speer took over his position.]
The text in the book explains the great importance of the work of people employed in the armament industry, and that they contribute to German Victory on all war fronts. There are related quotes from Adolf Hitler speeches, production statistics, weapons research, poems about Rüstungsarbeiter. There are chapters written by SA-Brigadeführer and Regierungspräsident Hans Krebs as well as Dr. Gustav Krupp, enthusiastic Hitler supporter and head of the huge Friedrich Krupp AG heavy industry conglomerate.
But the best thing about this book is the photo content, which is not found in other Third Reich publications. Ammunition being produced in different modern factories all over Greater Germany, Adolf Hitler and Reichsminister Todt visiting ammunition producers, U-Boot and Luftwaffe airplane factories, huge mines and artillery, 88 mm guns, modern hydraulic presses, MG 42, tank engines and propellors in production, women employed in the war industry, stacks of wooden bomb chests, etc., etc.
Published by Otto Elsner Verlagsgesellschaft of Berlin, this 6-3/4 x 9 inch, 192 page hardcover Third Reich photo book Front in der Heimat is in very nice used condition. The original dust jacket, shown in the photo above, was laminated by a previous owner to preserve it. Tight spine, no odor.
