This is a rare and very handy, heavily illustrated tourist information booklet printed for travelers going to Rome during the fascist Italian era of Benito Mussolini.

The colorful 5-1/2 x 9-5/8 inch cover encloses pages that, when unfolded, measures 52 inches (4.3 ft or 1.32 meters)! It has a map of downtown Rome and sepia photos of tourist highlights of the Eternal City - the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican, Castel Sant'Angelo, the huge Victor Emmanuel II National Monument, the Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo and of course, the Foro Mussolini, the huge sports complex built between 1928 and 1938 north of Vatican City. The purpose of the prestigious project was to prepare to host the Olympic Games of 1940.

The front and back covers have fold out flaps which have fully-indexed, handy tourist information about museums, monuments, galleries, bus lines, libraries, etc.

This fine old tourist brochure was printed in Rome. It is undated but is clearly from the Fascist era as Foro Mussolini was renamed Foro Italico after the end of World War II. In 1960, it became the venue for the Rome Olympic Games.

Very rare and in very good, little-used condition. No writing, no tears, no taped seams and no offensive odor.
