Menschen im Werk aus der größten deutschen Luftwaffenschmiede (People at Work at Germany's Largest Airplane Manufacturer) is a superb Third Reich photo book published by Junkers Flugzeug- und Motorenwerke AG in Dessau in 1940.
When this book was published, Junkers was one of Nazi Germany's most important war industries, manufacturing the Ju52, Ju87 (Stuka), Ju88 as well as parts and engines for many other warplanes of the Nazi Luftwaffe.
After a quote by Generalfeldmarschall Hermann Goering and a foreword by Reichsorganisationsleiter and DAF Reichsleiter Dr. Robert Ley, Junkers Managing Director Dr. Heinrich Koppenberg explains that the workers at Junkers are the "soldiers on the home front" and that their comrades at the front who will leaf through this book, will be reminded of their jobs at home and will be able to rely on weapons and machines made by people who fulfill their duty with the same spirit and purpose - victory for the Greater German Reich!
Texts written by a Junkers lathe operator, an engineer, a research tester, an airplane builder, a designer, and a Junkers office worker, are interspersed with wonderful big full-page photographs by Karl Krüger depicting men at work in the Junkers factory building airplanes, assembling airplane engines, workers at Junkers testing facilities, welders, mechanics, milling machine operators, quality controllers, and test pilots. There are also photos of Nazi Hitler Youth boys studying airplane building and playing sports, and Junkers aircraft in the sky with the Luftwaffe.
This rare 8 x 10-¾ inch, 64 page softcover book ends with a patriotic "Belief in Germany" poem (shown left), also written by a Junkers employee. Menschen im Werk was printed by C. Dünnhaupt Verlag of Dessau. This 78 year old example of Menschen im Werk aus der größten deutschen Luftwaffenschmiede has its original dust jacket. The rare book is complete and in very nice used condition. No odor.
